Punta Cana, DR.– Punta Cana’s international airport handled 2.2 million visitors during 2011, some 223,000 more than the figures registered in 2010. Located on the Dominican Republic’s easternmost region, this popular destination experienced a solid 11% jump from the previous year. 

Canadian, American and European tourists still prefer Punta Cana over other Caribbean destinations. In December, 218,000 international travelers visited the region: 54% from Canada and the United States; 35% from Europe; and 11% from Latin America.
